David Maus has made his next move in automotive retail acquiring the Nissan dealership owned by the Ferman Automotive Group in New Port Richey, FL.
Maus, who had been partnered with the Van Tuyl Automotive Group in four stores in the Orlando, FL area recently sold his stake back to Van Tuyl for a reported $20 million according to the Orlando Business Journal. Maus also sold his Hyundai dealership in Deland, FL in June to the Asbury Automotive Group.
He had agreed in principal to join forces with Warren Peacock in early August, to form the First Team Automotive Group, but a week after announcing the partnership, Maus backed out for undisclosed reasons. Peacock owns the New River Auto Mall in Hardeeville, SC. Currently, the group operates Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, Hyundai, Nissan, Infiniti, Mazda, Subaru, Jaguar, Land Rover, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram dealerships in the auto mall and a Jaguar-Land Rover store in Columbia.
It will be interesting to see which other dealerships Maus acquires. The New Port Richey dealership is northwest of the Tampa area and the purchase probably indicates Maus is establishing a beach head in the Tampa area.
Also, with Nissan appearing to have a retail network strategy that partners with specific dealers to develop clusters of dealerships in local markets, don’t be surprised to see Maus end up with at least another two or three Nissan stores in the Tampa area.
